We have access to thousands of vessels to choose from in a variety of sizes to match almost any budget. Our captains are very knowledgeable and have many years of experience sailing the waters off the Italian coastline. They will know the best destinations to match your desired itinerary of activities. They are able to make recommendations based on whether you are interested more in shore excursions, planned events, touring your favorite coastal cities, or just want to find a secluded cove for a private escape.

Depending on your sailing experience you can choose a more ‘hands-on’ approach or leave all functions to the captain and crew and sit back and enjoy the cruise. Our boat/ship options and captain and crew are matched to your group size, planned destinations, desired activities and level of participation. The more work you agree to do during the cruise means less crew is needed and can significantly reduce your overall cost.

What are the best destinations for a sailboat charter?

The Mediterranean is indisputably the most popular area for sailboat charters, with a slight majority opting for Croatia. With the glittering waters of the Adriatic and thousands of kilometers of enchanting coastline to navigate, sailors travel from all over the globe to discover the beautiful islands of this country, which accounts for 25% of all sailboat charters. The next two most popular destinations for sailboats are Greece and Italy, with each accounting for 19% of rentals. It is clear that the Mediterranean is the preferred destination for people who desire an adventure on the water. Areas such as the Caribbean are great for sailing, but are more favored for catamaran cruises, making up only 2% of sailboat charters.

At Cosset Travel our focus is on the Italian coast because most of our captains come from, or reside in, Italy and are more familiar with the various destinations that appeal to the majority of our clients. Our captains know this coast like the back of their hand and could navigate these waters in their sleep. Depending on what time of year you sail, different locations will be more preferable and our captains know the best destinations if you’re looking for sun and ideal wind conditions.

We can accommodate almost any size group from one or two people to larger groups of twenty or more. There are 13898 boats or small ships to Charter ranging from a modest 20 or 30 foot sailboat to a 127 foot luxury yacht. With more than 10,000 boats for hire we can get the right boat for any occasion, i.e. a couples retreat, small group of friends, family vacations, weddings and/or honeymoons, etc. Whether you are interested in a sailboat, catamaran, motor boat or yacht, choosing the right boat for your group or party is easy and can be adjusted to match your needs or wish list.

Sailboat Cabin Charter

Though the majority of our cabin cruises are aboard catamarans or gulets we do have a handful of cabin charter options aboard sailboats. These are perfect for those who have never sailed before or are looking for a smaller-scale cruise. This is an excellent choice if you are interested in learning the basics of navigation from your skipper, without any of the responsibility or pressure of controlling the boat! Cabin cruises are also great for anyone who wants to sit back and relax and discover a new corner of the world in a completely unique and memorable way.

How to Budget for Your Charter:

Sailboats, compared to catamarans for example, are usually less lavish than other types of boat which generally makes them a more affordable option. Most marinas are set up to cater to sailboats making it easier to find a slip and the docking and fuel costs will also be less in most cases.

The Sun Odyssey 36i, Oceanis 38 and Bavaria Cruiser 46 are among the most requested rentals in the fleet. Depending on your destination, the season, and the year, make and model of the boat you plan to charter, you can find pricing at very reasonable rates. While the majority of rentals are within the 20 to 40 foot range there is still the option to go much bigger. For those requiring room for large groups sailboats of up to 127ft are available for charter. This is a more expensive option but for larger groups the lower per person cost can make this the perfect solution.

The essential check-list before setting sail…

If you’ve never been sailing or it’s been a while since your last trip, here are a few reminders/recommendations of what to bring to make sure you’re fully prepared for your charter.

First, cabin space is limited so it is essential that you bring easily foldable luggage or bags that can’t be compacted once on board.

Second, do not forget your boat charter agreement, your train or plane tickets and your passport if necessary.

Third, check with your bank to confirm that you can use your credit cards where you are going and let them know where you will be traveling so they do not think your cards have been lost or stolen and place a hold on them.

Forth, check with your agent or captain to get a full itinerary and let a friend or family member know when you are leaving and when to expect your return.

Each member of the sailboat crew should bring sunglasses, gloves, sunscreen, head-torch, warm jacket and non-slippery shoes (preferably white-soled). Depending on your destination, do not forget your hat or swimsuit! You’ll also want to make sure you have a stocked first aid kit on board with you.

Fishing or diving enthusiasts might want to bring their own equipment... It is also advisable to bring some good books or magazines to occupy yourself on board in your cabin or on deck in the sun! Board games and cards are also great for your evenings and aperitifs in the cockpit or in the saloon while others are busy cooking the catch of the day...

This list isn’t exhaustive, but it includes some of the essentials to consider before embarking on a sailing charter.

Only the Best Boats are Available for Charter

To ensure you have an optimal experience and to avoid any unpleasant surprises before or during your cruise, we offer only boats that have met our highest quality standards. For legal reasons, and to ensure we are offering the highest quality service to our clients, all ship owners are required to meet certain standards. This includes an evaluation of their boats to ensure that all inspections, maintenance and licenses are up-to-date and each boat is kept in exceptional condition.

When our customers return from their charter, we invite them to come back to this Website and write a review of their experience regarding the charter. This way we are able to offer a transparent service so prospective clients can fully understand the reality of chartering with us. If a boat no longer meets our criteria or feedback is negative, we will automatically remove the boat from our fleet.
